Q1 in Review
As a full-service marketing communications agency, we wear many client hats in assorted styles. From sombreros and beanies to pillboxes and fedoras, HKA headwear fills the agency closet. Some days, we are media relations and advertising consultants. Other days, we are event planners and digital marketers. To support clients in the affordable housing industry, we don government relations berets. While HKA does not necessarily focus on specific communications sectors, including public affairs, we often support clients who endeavor to connect with local, state and federal officials. In Q1, the agency connected several government dots for Community Preservation Partners (CPP), including a facilitated meeting in March for CPP with U.S. Congressman Donald McEachin in Richmond, Virginia, where CPP is conducting a significant community rehabilitation project. Before that, HKA secured the February participation of U.S. Congressman Lou Correa, Deputy California Treasurer Jeree Glasser-Hedrick and Anaheim City Councilmember Denise Barnes at CPP’s rededication of Miracle Terrace – an acclaimed affordable housing community in Anaheim. The agency also wrote prepared remarks for all three dignitaries. Separately, HKA took on a marketing communications project for Irvine Community Land Trust in March, writing and designing an informational brochure about California Senate Bill 1056 to help explain pending affordable housing legislation in the California State Legislature. The brochure outlined how the measure would impact affordable housing initiatives and detailed the economic burdens to those with affordable housing concerns.
Wave a Magic Wan
Besides adding a host of new clients, projects and business successes, HKA also added a talented new employee early in 2018. Stefani Wan recently said aloha to Hawaii – her floral backpack stuffed with 15+ years of national and international public relations and marketing experience – and aloha to the other end of the Pacific Ocean. She now surfs big PR waves at HKA as an account manager, specializing in program development and execution for clients in the nonprofit and professional services arenas. Before joining HKA, the Hawaii Pacific University graduate supported many notable brands in the tourism and hospitality industry in Honolulu, including Hawaii Tourism Authority, International Market Place and Polynesian Cultural Center. She also once led a 20-person agency in Asia, serving a variety of high-profile clients, including 7-Eleven and Air Asia X. Stefani speaks four different dialects of Chinese and always approaches her work with a keen worldview and acute global perspective.
Wipe Your Feet and C’mon in
HKA excitedly laid out two similar client doormats early in 2018. One read “welcome,” and the other read “welcome back.” Impressive new corporate clients Bitcentral and Companion Hospice, Home Health and Palliative Care (Companion) were added to the agency roster, while New Directions for Women and Southern California Hospice Foundation, two prominent nonprofits headquartered in Orange County, once again engaged with HKA after brief hiatuses. Newport Beach- and Mexico City-based Bitcentral provides efficient workflows and customized software solutions that maximize the value of media. HKA actively supported Bitcentral’s presence at the 2018 National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, including the company’s debut of an innovative product designed to broadcast personalized digital media as seamlessly as watching regular television. Companion, with locations throughout Southern California, plus Arizona and Texas, delivers a continuum of care, spanning home health care, palliative care and hospice. In support of its 25th year in business, HKA has been engaged to freshen the corporate identity with a commemorative logo and new website. New Directions for Women is a nationally recognized addiction treatment and recovery organization, and Southern California Hospice Foundation helps to enhance the quality of life for those at the end-of-life. HKA is supporting the multifaceted marketing communications interests of both nonprofits, including media relations. The efforts of all four clients – new and new again – are commendable, and we couldn’t be prouder to help them achieve greater awareness for their missions.
