A Tech-tonic Shift

In March, HKA proudly announced the relaunch of its Technology Practice with the return of Mike Kilroy, Group Director, Technology, to the agency.  Twenty years ago, Mike played a key role in building HKA’s impressive tech communications legacy.  He has returned to help companies take advantage of new opportunities in the era of digital transformation – the novel use of advanced technologies to solve traditional problems.  Digital transformation is expected to have far-reaching impacts on business and society over the next several years.

Holding previous executive positions at technology PR agencies, Mike has led programs for a variety of tech startups and top brands involved in AI/machine learning, IoT, the 5G telecommunications network, virtual and augmented reality, cybersecurity, data analytics, sustainability and connected vehicles.  His new HKA responsibilities include business development, marketing and strategic counsel and account management to technology clients to ensure effective program implementation.

In conjunction with a revitalized tech practice, HKA also restarted EmergingTechPR, a resource and blog site first launched in 1999 and now reimagined to serve the innovative entrepreneurs, enterprises and other leaders of today’s emerging tech community.

In-site-ful and Delightful

The first few months of a new year present golden opportunities for businesses to breathe new life into the year ahead, often with a fresh look at marketing assets and endeavors.  Among the many arrows in any company quiver, corporate websites are vital – and central to the marketing arsenal.  HKA’s web-development capability was tapped twice in early 2019, rolling out major website redesigns for Irvine Community Land Trust and Oakridge Industries. Both clients approached the agency with existing sites that had gone years without a fresh coat of paint and were lacking modern features required to thrive across the uber-competitive digital marketing landscape. HKA provided strategic website design guidance and tactical support to help deliver newly reimagined web products for both clients.  Among a host of services, the agency directed efforts to secure stylish photography and drafted compelling copy to ensure the new sites stood out among a sea of nondescript competitors and properly reflected the brand essence of each unique client.  The results speak for themselves, and we’re proud to highlight www.oakridgeindustries.com and www.irvineclt.org as prime examples of HKA’s web-design expertise. Whether through comprehensive marketing communications campaigns or individual projects that define how companies present themselves to their constituents, HKA offers an eye for differentiation, longstanding excellence and the ability to deliver impressive results.

Who’s on First?

Last year, HKA helped to create an uplifting community relations campaign for prominent client Dignity Memorial, allowing Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary and Family Mortuary, two significant Dignity locations in Orange County, to meaningfully engage with and express deep gratitude for local law enforcement and fire safety.  The idea originated with a desire to recognize individuals who go above and beyond, displaying courage and an unbending commitment to service before self – often without any acknowledgement or appreciation.  Dubbed Responders First, a playful twist on first responders, the effort shines a light on the brave men and women who risk life and limb in the line of duty and who invest time and energy to support the communities in which they serve.  Responders First is an initiative that endeavors to put first responders “first” in the hearts and minds of others – deservedly so.  In February, Officer Jonathan McKee of the Santa Ana Police Department was the second Responders First recipient and received a plaque and hosted luncheon for the SAPD in his honor.  Of course, HKA leveraged the inspirational recognition event with media relations and event logistics for Family Mortuary.
