HKA is an award-winning technology PR agency whose talented professionals are dedicated to creating invaluable visibility and credibility for all our clients.

For more than three decades, HKA Marketing Communications has been a trusted partner to companies large and small, in a variety of industries. Our award-winning work has guided communications programs for everyone from fledgling entrepreneurs to veteran CEOs.

In 2019, we recognized the tremendously important role that quantum computers will play in our lives. And we saw the need for an agency like HKA, filled with former journalists, to begin telling quantum technology stories. Our natural curiosity, scientific communications origins, and years of emerging tech experience led us to happily become “quantum entangled.” While we continue to create successful outcomes for our top-quality legacy accounts, we have become laser-focused on the exploding field of quantum technology.

They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
We think it’s both.

We aren’t PhDs in physics, but we know how to strategically communicate this complex field in compelling yet understandable terms for a variety of audiences. We don’t add hype, we just reveal our clients’ core value to the industry and the amazing applications on the horizon.

Just as importantly, we know the journalists who care about quantum technology. They trust us and readily hear us tell the stories of our clients. Already, many journalists around the globe rely on HKA to lead them to quantum tech experts.

We invite you to join us on this bold and exciting chapter of HKA.

Hilary Kaye
Founder & CEO

As founder and CEO, Hilary Kaye provides the overall vision and strategic direction for HKA. Spearheading the agency’s business development, she is adept at identifying new client challenges, recognizing how HKA can support business objectives and generate both the visibility and credibility needed for success. The agency is known for customized solutions rather than a cookie-cutter approach often seen among PR agencies.
For more than three decades, Hilary has been proud to lead an agency with highly accountable services to clients and media and an environment where team members are respected and encouraged. Over the years, the company has worked with clients in a wide variety of industries, ranging from representing the Republic of the Marshall Islands soon after it became a sovereign nation in Micronesia to handling public relations for Farmers & Merchants Bank in Southern California. Along the way, HKA has nabbed dozens of industry awards and Hilary has been honored with several awards personally. Her favorites are the Ethics in America Award and the NAWBO Remarkable Woman Award, both based on integrity in business. She is also a community philanthropist and volunteer.
Hilary began her career as a journalist, working for a local daily newspaper and being a correspondent for several national newspapers. She holds a master’s degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to launching HKA, Hilary worked at UC Irvine, initially as the science writer in the public information office and later as the assistant director of public information. She is the co-author of Plant Extinction: A Global Crisis, which has been translated into six languages.

Mike Kilroy
Group Director, Technology

Mike Kilroy, who started his career as a newspaper and magazine journalist, transitioned to public relations about 25 years ago, serving as a PR executive with top agencies in Southern California and Silicon Valley. Mike has spent most of his career creating media magic for technology clients, representing companies with the latest innovations. He has led communications programs for venture capital-funded startups as well as top-tier brands such as Epson, Toshiba, Ericsson, Cisco and Ingram Micro. While earlier client innovations ranged from WiFi connectivity to mobile GPS, recent and current global clients span artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of things (IoT) and quantum computing.
Mike earlier played a key role in creating HKA’s impressive technology communications legacy. In 2019, he returned to lead the HKA technology PR team and has been instrumental in building the agency’s global client roster in quantum technology. Mike’s media savviness once again is generating top-tier results for HKA’s technology clients.
Mike, who holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, has been recognized for his work with three Silver Anvils, the prestigious national award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and numerous first place PROTOS awards from the local PRSA chapter.
